Presently, someone develops Alzheimer’s every 67 seconds, and this disease is the sixth leading cause of death in the country and the only one that is increasing.
Statistics like this strike close to home for our president and CEO Dennis White who is participating in the 10th annual Dancing Stars of Atlanta on May 4, 2019 at the Cobb Galleria.
This is an exciting benefit for the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter. Reinventing the popular show, “Dancing with the Stars,” this fundraising event is comprised of local celebrity dancers paired with professional ballroom dancers, all raising funds by gaining votes. The dancers then come together to compete in a one-night gala dance competition.
Dennis is dancing to honor a dear friend whose sister suffered from early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. This friend, along with her husband, accepted and cared for the children of her sister after she passed away. According to Dennis, “If she can take on the responsibility of those children and handle the suffering of her sister, then I can take to the dance floor and do something spectacular.”
Dancing Stars’ goal is to support research and the programs and services provided for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as their families and caregivers. The number of Georgian’s, in particular, dying from Alzheimer’s disease is growing at a staggering pace, far exceeding the national average. This recent AJC article describes the uphill battle Georgians and the entire country are facing.
Alliant Health Solutions is so proud of Dennis’ personal commitment to this cause and we encourage others to get involved by casting a vote for him here.
There will be two winners – People’s Choice Award for the couple with the highest fundraising total and Judge’s Choice Award for the couple who receives the highest judge’s score.
